The Go-To Tool for Building an AR-10 Upper Receiver

Building up a battle rifle from parts isn’t exactly light duty, so get the heavy-duty fixture you’ll need for your AR-10 upper.  This upper receiver rod interfaces with an AR-10/LR308 style barrel extension, allowing you to install all the essential components of your .308 or 6.5 Creedmoor rifle.

Since this tool mates with a steel barrel extension, you don’t have to worry about breaking or marring your upper receiver.  No clamps or clamshells, just put the rod in your vise, slide on your upper and barrel, and you’ll be ready to set torque and complete your AR-10 upper build.

Note: Not compatible with DPMS G2 .308 Rifles

Heavy duty steel receiver rod

Really the best way to torque up barrel nuts, or to remove them. No stress on the upper receiver.

The MI rod is sturdy (understatement !!) and fits the lugs on all of the barrel extensions that I have tried from various manufacturers. It also is useful to check alignment of the barrel extension to the receiver. If for some reason the locating pin is off (mis-located notch on the upper, or the pin hole on the barrel extension is mis-drilled, etc) then the rod lugs will not enter the extension. Bad news--that means that the bolt will not lock either, or if it does, cartridge thrust force will not be evenly distributed on the bolt locking lugs.

The only thing I would want to change is for MI to figure out how to lower the price. Under $100 is a great target and would increase the number of buyers. Everyone who swaps barrels or needs to torque down the barrel nut needs one of these rods.

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thorough and positive review of our Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod for .308/AR-10 rifles. We are thrilled to hear that you have found it to be a heavy duty and effective tool for torquing up barrel nuts and checking alignment. We appreciate your feedback on the price and will definitely take it into consideration as we strive to provide high-quality products at a reasonable cost for our customers. Thank you for recommending our rod to others who may also find it useful for their barrel-swapping needs.

Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod for AR10

Realistically it's a milled bar of hardened steel. Professionally it fits perfectly into an AR-10 upper with no preceivable slop and as long ans the vise it's in and the tool you turn the barrel nut with is as well, you won't have any issues. This midwest tool is here to work. It turned out better than anticipated.

Thanks for the review! I'm glad to hear that the Midwest Industries Upper Receiver Rod works well and is a great value.

308 Rod

This is absolutely the way to go when torquing on a barrel nut or brake. The piece slide in my upper receiver and into my barrel with zero play. The only thing I would add is a way to secure the upper to the rod while working so the rod doesn't slide back out.

Thanks for sharing your feedback! We're glad you're satisfied with your purchase.
