The story of IWI US traces back to 1933 when Israel Military Industries (IMI) Ltd. initiated firearms production in Israel under the British Mandate. In the late 1950s, IMI collaborated with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) to develop technologically advanced small arms systems tailored to the demands of troops in urban and harsh environments. This collaboration resulted in iconic firearm brands like the UZI®, TAVOR®, X95®, NEGEV®, GALIL ACE®, and JERICHO®.

In 2005, the Israeli government privatized the small arms division of IMI, leading to the establishment of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd. The joint Research & Development (R&D) team of IWI and the IDF continued to innovate based on real-world applications and the evolving threat of global terrorism.

IWI’s products have been extensively used by the IDF and various worldwide militaries, including Chile, Colombia, Georgia, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Portugal, Thailand, Ukraine, Vietnam, and more. The company maintains strict compliance with military (MIL-STD) and ISO 9001.2008 standards in the production and assembly of its weapon systems.

IWI US, Inc. commenced operations in 2013, introducing the first commercial versions of the Tavor SAR to the US market. The Tavor garnered immediate success, receiving the prestigious 2014 “Rifle of the Year” Golden Bullseye award from NRA Publication’s American Rifleman Magazine. Subsequently, the Tavor X95 was recognized as the 2017 “Rifle of the Year” by Shooting Illustrated Magazine. IWI US also earned consecutive Importer of the Year awards from the National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) in 2014 and 2015.

The Law Enforcement Division of IWI US was launched in 2014, witnessing the adoption of Tavor SAR and Tavor X95 by the first US law enforcement agencies. The introduction of the Tavor X95 and the legendary Galil ACE in 7.62x39mm and 7.62 NATO to the US commercial market further solidified IWI US’s commitment within five award-winning years.
